KISM FAQ’s

  1. 1.How do I become a KISM Member?

    To qualify for KISM Membership One must meet the following requirements:
    a. Academic – (List the requirements) Certificates dip/degree/postgraduate course in procurement.
    b. Professional – (list the requirements) CIPs level 6 or CPSP-K).

    The application must be made online through our – application portal member.kism.or.ke

    NB: INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE AUTO-DELETED AFTER 72 HOURS.

    The documentation required shall include:
    FULL MEMBERSHIP
    Copies of the following documents certified by a commissioner of oaths:
    o Academic and professional examination certificates (dip/degree/postgraduate course in procurement and supplies or CIPs level 6/CPSP-K)
    o National identification card
    o Passport size photograph
    o Letter from employer or CV
    o Payment of Kshs 4,500
    ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
    Copies of the following documents certified by a commissioner of oaths:
    o Academic and professional examination certificates
    o Copy of the national identity card capturing both faces of the document, or a passport or valid work permit for non-Kenyans
    o Passport size photograph
    o Relevant testimonials
    o CV
    o Applicants are required to indicate the level of their professional experience and practical training. The employment record must be supported by a letter from the employer (including current employer) stating:
    •Date of commencement and /or termination
    •Nature and scope of duties
    •Whether the employment was on a fulltime or part-time basis
    o Payment of Kshs 4,500

    STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
    Copies of the following documents certified by a commissioner of oaths:
    o Academic and professional examination transcripts
    o Form four certificate
    o National identification card
    o Passport size photograph
    o Payment of Kshs 1,500
    PAYMENT
    Payment is done via KISM pay bill number 552500
    Account Number- Use proforma invoice number generated at the last section of completing your application.

  2. 2. Which Category Should I apply for?

    The following are KISM membership categories and requirement for each:
    1.Full Member
    This category of membership is for persons with academic or professional certification in procurement or Supply Chain Management field.
    2.Associate Member
    This category of membership is for persons with experience in procurement and supply chain management, but lack academic or professional certification in the field. Hence this category of Membership is for those in practice but lack qualifications.
    3.Student member
    This class of membership is open to individuals with little or no practical experience in procurement and supply chain management but are pursuing academic or professional studies at accredited institutions. Upon completion of the course the student should qualify for full membership.

  3. 3. What are the benefits of being a KISM member?

    What are the benefits of being a KISM member?
     It’s a legal compliance. As an individual procurement/supplies professional, you are required by law to be registered as a member of the institute.
     Access to training at discounted rates.
     Job reference services.
     Networking opportunities.
     Continuing professional education.
     Professional representation on procurement matters.
     Online international journals, discussion papers, members’ discussion forum.
     Access to KISM resource center.

  4. 4. How long does it take to get KISM membership?

    KISM membership is subject to approval by the Registration Committee who meet at least once a month.

  5. 5. What is the difference between a Member and a Licenced practitioner?

    A member means a person who is registered under the (Supplies Practitioners Management Act, 2007) and is a member of the Institute while a licenced practitioner is a registered member of the Institute who by virtue to taking out an annual license has been permitted to practice in Supply Chain Management(SCM) field. In SCM profession, individuals are not legally allowed to practice in the job without the license.

  6. 6.What is the CPD requirement for Licence renewal?

    The KISM CPD scheme is mandatory, requiring members to earn a given number of CPD points to qualify for license renewal. Currently, the minimum number of CPD points required for renewal stands at 24.

  7. 8.When will my card/ Licence expire?

    Validity period for all renewals is up to 31st December every year.

  8. 9. How much should I pay for renewal?

    The fee depends on your membership category. For full and associate membership is Kshs 4,000 while student membership is Kshs 1,000.

  9. 10. How Can I upgrade from Associate/ Student to Full membership?

    Membership Upgrade Procedure
    o Ensure you have activated your account through our online self-registration portal – member.kism.or.ke
    o Log into your account.
    o On My documents tab and proceed to upgrade.

    The following are requirements for upgrade application;
    o Duly filled in Registration form
    o CERTIFIED academic certificates by a lawyer/Commissioners for Oaths
    o National ID/Passport
    o Curriculum vitae(CV)
    o Payment of Kshs 4,000.

  10. 11. What are the requirements for Corporate Membership?

    Corporate Membership is open to Companies, Public bodies, Parastatals, Institutions and other organizations who share our ideals and goals in establishing professionally managed supply chains. The bodies are required to commit themselves and their employees to the KISM Code of Ethics.

    Requirements
    The duly completed application form which can be downloaded from our website with a subscription fee of KShs. 25,000

  11. 12. What are the requirement for Corporate Licences?

    Where the holder of a Registration Certificate intends to practice as a firm whether as a sole proprietor, partnership or as a body corporate, he or she shall make an application to the Registration Committee for a Supplies Practitioners License.
    Registration Requirements
    • Application form duly signed by the Managing Supplies Practitioners in the firm
    • Copy of certificate of registration of the company
    • Copy of the latest financial statements
    • Shareholders, Owners or Members as defined in the Memorandum of Association or statute under which it is constituted are at all times individually licensed as Supplies Practitioners.
    • Copies of Supplies Practitioners Licenses of key personnel engaged by the firm
    • Copy of Articles and Memorandum of Association
    • Tax compliance certificate
    •Registration fee Ksh. 20,000.00

  12. 13. How do I activate my KISM profile?

    The following is the procedure for member activation:
    o Log onto the portal http://member.kism.or.ke/#/login
    o Click Activate Account.
    o A password reset link will be sent to your email.
    o Input your password and log into your account.

  13. 14. What is the procedure and requirements for licence application?

    The following are requirements for Licence application;
    o Be a full member or fellow of KISM
    o Duly filled in Registration form
    o CERTIFIED academic certificates by a Commissioners for Oaths
    o National ID/Passport
    o Curriculum vitae(CV)
    o Valid Membership Card

    PAYMENT
    Kshs 6,000 is payable through
    Paybill No. 552500
    Account No. Proforma invoice number

  14. 15.Who is a member in Good Standing?

    This is a member who is up to date in payment of all dues and fees and is not under disciplinary sanctions.

  15. 16. How does one book for an event?

    Include a link that redirects the user events.kism.or.ke
    Upon completion of the booking a proforma invoice is generated which is then used to solicit funds from respective organisations sponsoring the participants.

  16. 17. How do I get the KISM Training calendar?
    KISM is a national body for professionals in the practice of procurement and supply chain management in Kenya. The Institute draws its mandate from the Supplies Practitioners Management Act No.17 of 2007.
